There was a child went forth every day, And the first object he look'd upon, That object he became.
And that object became a part of him For the day or a certain part of the day, Or for many years or stretching cycles of years...
- Walt Whitman
Your children are unique individuals and bring with them their own interests and experiences that might be shared with us; we, in turn, would
like to share our experiences with them.
We want our children to:
- Get to know everyday phenomena in many first hand sensory ways.
- Question and think for themselves.
- Enjoy the satisfaction of solving problems and learning skills.
- Express their feelings and sense of self through dramatic play, dance, art and literature.
- Symbolize their ideas with pictures and signs (letters and numerals) as well as spoken words.
John Holt, well-known author and educator, has this to say about learning, "True learning - learning that is permanent and useful, that leads
to intelligent action and further learning, can arise only out of the experiences, interests and concerns of the learner."
- Ann M. Kilby, B.A., M.Ed. Founder 1939 - 1988
